Review: Kiya Collection's Gift Box by Kiya Cosmetics
Although it took a while to switch up my Instagram algorithm, I’ve finally been able to fill my feed with Black owned brands and businesses. I took my pick of the abundance of Black-owned and emerging hair care brands, eventually choosing Kiya Cosmetics, an all natural hair and skin care brand started by Kay Amoah.

The brand name is a conjuration of her daughters' names and aims to create and provide truly natural ingredients that keep your skin and hair nourished, healthy as well as visibly softer and hydrated.
From pink clay masks to hydrating hair mists, Kiya Cosmetics products are of the highest quality, baring rave reviews from happy customers with now beautiful and healthy curls.
Since I was giving my hair a lengthy break and completely re-vamping my hair routine, I took the route of natural hair products that were not only revitalising for my dry hair, but also affordable, so that I could keep buying the product as part of my routine.
So, I started by purchasing, or gifting myself as I like to say, the Kiya’s Collection Gift Box which came with the essentials for a LOC/LCO method: Kiya’s Hair Growth Oil, Hydrating Hair Mist, Whipped Shea Butter in Citrus and African Black Soap.

With speedy delivery and the cutest packaging, I was excited before I had even opened the box. Each item was neatly labelled with a thorough list of ingredients and how to use the product.
I applied the Hydrating Hair Mist to freshly washed and dried hair and I was genuinely shocked at how hydrated and moisturised it made my hair. It works perfectly as a liquid to start off the LOC/LCO method in comparison to my original product for this step of my routine, pure Aloe Vera juice, which I found dried up quickly, making Kiya’s Hydrating Mist, by far, my favourite product of the whole set.
Next, I applied the Hair Growth Oil which comes as a mixture of various oils including Essential oils, Castor oil and Olive oil to name a few. I personally believe it’s the ’little bit of love’ added that has benefited my hair the most. I currently have braids in so the applicator bottle makes it easier to distribute the product across my scalp. This product is definitely a good competitor for my own concoction of Castor oil, Doo Gro growth oil and Olive oil.
Both work well on my hair, stimulating healthy growth with similar oils, however it’s the lightweight and soothing feel of Kiya’s oil and the assurance of no nasties (parabens, sulfates and silicones) that has secured its place in my basket for my next batch.
Lastly, I used the Citrus Whipped Shea Butter to seal my ends and lock in the moisture provided by the last two products. This product comes with the choice of Lavender, Original, Citrus, Peppermint and Coconut leaving you spoilt for choice. Kiya’s product was unlike any hair moisturiser I have ever used. I don’t think it’s water-based, which means I was able to use it on my blow dried hair.
This moisture-rich product infused with natural oils meant that a small amount went a long way. I knew I was going to be getting a re-up after I used it for the first time AND it doubles as a body moisturiser too, win win!
I only used the African Black Soap once but I didn’t have the best results with it. Since my skin is dry and sensitive, I was already sceptical and I think the product was too harsh on my face.
Aside from this, I have fallen in love with Kiya Cosmetics, not only are their products heaven sent, but the customer service across their website and Instagram page (@kiya_cosmetics) is outstanding. I suggest giving them a follow to catch any discount codes from their story and to hear more about how well their products and ingredients work on different hair types.
Kiya Cosmetics gives me hope for the next generation of kids with type 3-4 hair, growing up with brands that encourage hair love with helpful tips, cruelty free skin and hair products and a genuine care for our kinks and curls. I'm definitely looking forward to shopping here again.
